District Heating & Cooling
What we provide is often called district heating and cooling services. Steam and chilled water are produced at a central plant and piped through an underground network to area buildings for space heating and air conditioning.
This is an extremely reliable, affordable, and efficient way to warm and cool a building. It eliminates the need for on-site boilers, furnaces, chillers, and air conditioners so customers experience lower capital and maintenance costs. The capital cost of building space to house the equipment is also avoided.
District heating and cooling systems serve many customers from one location. These systems enjoy economies of scale in staffing and fuel & equipment purchasing; and, employ technologies that would be cost-prohibitive in most individual buildings. For example, Energy Systems utilizes a variety of conventional fuels, depending upon which is most cost competitive at a given time. It also has incorporated highly-efficient combined heat and mechanical power, or cogeneration, technology into its system to reduce the amount of energy lost up the smokestack.
Building owners and managers can count on Energy Systems since energy professionals operate around-the-clock and have backup systems readily available. Energy Systems has established a reliability history of “Six-Nines” (99.9999%) for its chilled-water service. Its steam service reliability history is equally impressive.
